Theodore Roosevelt & the teddy bear
A U.S. president goes on a hunt, spares a bear, and a toy gets a famous nickname — the teddy bear.
In November 1902, President Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt was on a Mississippi hunting trip. When he refused to shoot a captured bear, newspapers drew cartoons of the moment. Toy makers soon named stuffed bears “teddy bears” after him. This is well-documented cultural history — the friendly starting point of our Fuzzy Timeline.
